(Reuters) – A German pharmaceutical supplier of semiconductor equipment said on Tuesday it was selling $ 1 billion for its US operations and was making a deal with Palantir Technologies (NYSE 🙂).

Merck KGaA of Darmstadt, Germany – who uses the name EMD Electronics in its North American electronics business to avoid confusion with a non-pharmaceutical company of the same name – offers a wide range of products used by the chips industry, which is expected to grow. if U.S. lawmakers provide a $ 52 billion home-improvement program.

The company plans to spend $ 1 billion by 2025 on the Arizona, California, Texas and Pennsylvania websites.

“The reduction in chip requires corporate co-operation to address the challenges consumers face here,” said Kai Beckmann, general manager of the German company’s electronics division, press release.

Merck KGaA announced Tuesday that it is making an agreement with analytics company Palantir. The agreement will seek to extract data from suppliers and products on the one hand and chip mill on the other and monitor their effectiveness.

The chip vendors and manufacturers have a lot of business secrets and have always been reluctant to share more than their corporations, said Laura Matz, who will oversee the new partnership, which will be called Athinia. Athinia will have another Merck KGaA component called EMD Digital, separate from its electronics business.

“This has been a major obstacle to solving the problem (of inefficiency) for many years,” Matz said of the reluctance to share data. “Until we got an idea of how we create data so that there is no (intellectual) contamination, we could not eliminate it.”

Merck KGaA did not disclose the details of the financial agreement with Palantir.
