Tim Paine likely out of Ashes after taking leave ‘for foreseeable future’

Tim Paine is not expected to be on the upcoming Ashes list after the first release Australia the captain was to retire from any form of cricket in the future.

Cricket Tasmania confirmed Thursday night their Marsh One-Day Cup match against Western Australia.

The 36-year-old was due to take part in the tournament, which would have been the first time he had competed since stepping down as Australian captain on Friday following a sexually explicit texting.

“Following a 24-hour interview, Tim Paine advised Cricket Tasmania to retire from any sport in the future as it appears,” a statement from Cricket Tasmania read.

“Tim’s decision makes him absent from today’s Marsh One-Day Cup match against Western Australia. His place in the team will be taken over by Charlie Wakim.

“Cricket Tasmania will continue to support Tim and his family professionally and individually this summer.”

Following a 24-hour interview, Tim Paine advised Cricket Tasmania to take a break from all sports in the future.

Paine was confirmed as the ambassador of the 15-strong Australian army last week before speaking to reporters in Hobart on Friday, agreeing to a “secret exchange” with his former Cricket Tasmania teammate.

The matter was investigated by Cricket Australia three years ago, and the player was found not to have violated the club’s rules but was found to have “previously acted in violation of the Australian cricket captain or the general public.”

James Henderson, chief executive officer at DSEG, said of his client on Twitter: “Confirmation that Tim Paine is leaving cricket to rest forever.

“We are very concerned about her life and that of Bonnie and we are not saying anything right now.”
