Spike in proportion of UK babies in hospital with Omicron

Researchers are promoting peace despite seeing an increase in the number of infants infected with the Covid virus

A report published Friday by the UK’s Emergency Science Advisory Group has warned that the proportion of children under the age of one in hospital with Covid has risen from 30% to 42% following the spread of the Omicron crisis.

A study conducted by the Coronavirus Clinical Characterization Consortium and the Covid-19 Clinical Information Network found that, compared with previous waves of the epidemic, there had been a dramatic increase in the number of infants in need of medical attention.

One reason considered is that older children are more likely to qualify and to be vaccinated, while infants are less likely to receive a jab. However, this seemed unlikely because there has been an increase in the number of hospitals among the elderly. Another explanation given by the researchers is that young children have a few small upper extremities and that Omicron is very influential.

Despite the growing number of cases, Calum Semple, a professor of pediatrics and psychiatry at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool, has urged people to stay calm, as infants often have more weaknesses.

“I want to emphasize here the fact that these are not babies who are sick. Instead, they have come for a short time to be examined,” he said. Semple sold UK media.

Dr. Camilla Kingdon, president of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health in the UK, confirmed this, saying that medical professionals are not. “carrying any signals that are most affected.”

Many babies are believed to be suffering from malaria and tuberculosis after being exposed to the Covid virus, he added.
