Seventh round of talks on Iranian nuclear deal to kick off in Vienna on Monday

The Joint Commission of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), set up by Iran and the five major powers in the world (Russia, UK, Germany, China and France), resumed talks on a nuclear deal in Vienna on Monday. Events mention reports TASS Price.

This will be the seventh round of talks, which were disrupted in the summer by Iran’s elections.

The talks will take place at the level of Political Leaders in Palais Coburg without doors. The conference will be chaired by the Deputy Secretary-General and Political Director of the European External Action Service (EEAS) Enrique Mora. The Russian delegation is led by Russia’s Permanent Representative to the International Organizations in Vienna Mikhail Ulyanov, Iran’s new envoy is led by Deputy Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri. The U.S. will not take part in the summit since its departure from the JCPOA in 2018. However, US special envoy to Iran Robert Malley is expected to take part in separate negotiations with other members of the nuclear deal.

According to Iran, it is important to focus on lifting US sanctions against Iran. As Bagheri emphasized, the nuclear deal should provide assurance that Iran will benefit from it.

The Russian ambassador also said that Moscow hoped the new Vienna negotiations would go well. “Russia enters into negotiations, I hope the project will succeed and will be completed in a timely manner. We do not want to waste time,” Ulyanov said.

The seventh session

Although significant progress has been made in the Vienna negotiations, the parties have not been able to achieve their main goal: the complete restoration of Iran’s original nuclear deal. In the last six episodes, the parties decided which U.S. sanctions against Iran should be lifted and almost agreed on a list of Iran’s actions to return to the nuclear deal.

Informal discussions between participants took place last week.

From April to June 2021, six Vienna negotiations took place between the member states of the JCPOA (Iran, Russia, UK, Germany, China, France) and the US in reviving Iran’s nuclear alliance in its original form.
