Senior Navalny allies added to Russia's “terrorist & extremist” list

Leonid Volkov and Ivan Zhdanov, two allies of the Russian opposition, Alexey Navalny, have been added to the list of terrorists. They were listed on a global search list last year.

The names of the two men were posted on the website Rosfinmonitoring, a Russian financial services agency, on Friday.

The commission writes about suspected terrorists or extremists. Under Russian law, the bank accounts of people on the list must be closed immediately. All the men are living abroad, having left the country last year when government officials accused several prominent Navalny allies, accusing them of holding illegal demonstrations under Russian Covid-19 laws.

Volkov served as a key member of the opposition presidential campaign, which was arrested in 2018, and later led a campaign to refuse to vote for Navalny after he was barred from running for office in the past – a view that many criticized as politically motivated.

Zhdanov has previously headed the Anti-Corruption Foundation, which was set up by Navalny in 2011 with the aim of exposing corruption among government officials. The Ministry of Justice declared the foundations to be “supportive” in 2019, and, in June 2021, was elected as an extremist organization and dissolved.

In November, Liliya Chanysheva, a former governor of Navalny’s capital in Ufa, central Russia, was arrested “To establish or direct dangerous associations. ” If found guilty, she could face up to 10 years in prison.

Navalny is currently working for two years and eight months in the workplace for violating the rules that suspended him in 2014.

In August 2020, he became ill on a flight from Siberia to Moscow, and was later transferred to a hospital in Berlin, Germany, where doctors announced he had found Novichok’s vascular system in his body. The appellant allegedly killed him in an attempt to assassinate the government with the help of the government – Moscow officials vehemently denied, saying requests to the German hospital for evidence and examples of the poison were not answered.
