The $ 17 billion is the largest Samsung investment in the US and includes housing, repairs, machinery and equipment. The stadium is expected to create 2,000 jobs in the region and thousands more in retail. Samsung will also provide funding to create the Samsung Skills Center of the Taylor Independent School District (ISD) to help students develop future career skills and to provide learning and employment opportunities.

Samsung said the move came after it reviewed a number of pages in the US to create production facilities. One of the benefits of Taylor’s page was that it was close to Samsung’s production facility in Austin, about 25 miles southwest of Taylor. This will enable the two sites to share infrastructure and resources.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott welcomed the news, adding that the facility “has brought a great deal of opportunity to the Central Texans and their families and has played a key role in the development of our country in the semiconductor manufacturing industry.”

NEC President Brian Deese and National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said the new factory would “protect our chains, rehabilitate our facilities, and create better jobs right now at home”.

U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo said in a statement that the creation of house semiconductors is essential to protect and develop US leadership and expertise in one of the most challenging industries.

“Semiconductors support our entire economy, and the demand for semiconductors continues to grow.
