Republicans and human rights activists have found another side of the issue: Both states say the newly formed Michigan legislature is unfair and barred voters.

The Bipartisan Michigan Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission released a new map of Congress, State Senate, and State House on Tuesday, condemning some and being praised by many Democrats, national political leaders, and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger of old California.

The newly formed governments were formed to end the atrocities that gave Republicans political advantage. Under the new map, a Democrats have the opportunity to change parliament for the first time in decades.

But human rights activists and other elected officials have threatened to ban the use of maps, saying the commission had abolished almost every black population and violated the Voting Act.

“The Michigan Redistricting Panel needs to realize that its actions will not continue to evict African-Americans and other communities in Michigan,” Wayne County Commissioner Jonathan Kinloch, chairman of the 13th Democratic DRM District Democratic Party, said in a statement. “Michigan is needed and must have a different Congress delegation and a representative government of the people of Michigan – it is the only way to ensure that every word is heard. “On behalf of all the people of Michigan we are negotiating to retain lawyer Todd Perkins and we are ready to donate a suit if necessary to change the maps and make them better for everyone.”

The Michigan Department of Human Rights also criticized the map, saying it “reduces the number of voting powers.”

“It is extremely important that the government in 2021, even the experts, students, and citizens who will be directly affected by their decisions, have adopted maps that do not meet the required criteria,” said John E. Johnson, Jr., head of the Department of Human Rights in Michigan. , he said. “The commission will review this and see what it can do.”

Republicans also oppose maps, but for a variety of reasons. They are disappointed that they have failed to record their constituencies, which has led to them holding senior positions in both the State House and the Senate.

“We are reviewing all the steps we can take to protect the statement from the council,” Gustavo Portela, a Michigan GOP spokesman, said in a statement.

Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, the state electoral officer, praised the committee’s map, saying the commission had completed an “open, independent and citizen-led approach to Michigan history.”

“Our democracy is strong because of the actions of Michigan citizens, the leadership, and the vision of a just, inclusive, and transparent system that puts voters at the forefront of politics and ends the turmoil in Michigan once,” Benson said.

Former Attorney General Eric Holder, Jr., chairman of the National Democratic Redistricting Committee, said he supported the new maps.

“No one gets anything they want, and everyone has to compromise,” Holder said. “But this is how the organization should work and, I am showing how American democracy should work.”

The Michigan Democratic Party also expressed its support.

“Under the new constitution and government, the Michigan Democratic Party is reaffirming its commitment to equal rights, fairness, and justice in celebrating Michigan’s population,” said Lavora Barnes, MDP chairperson.

Schwarzenegger, a gerrymandering critic, praised the new maps on Twitter on Wednesday. “Thank you to the Michigan Independent Redistrict Commissioners,” Schwarzenegger said. “Yesterday the votes of the two countries made the constituencies fair for the voters of the state. You have made it clear that when people, not politicians, line up, voters win. ”
