Off-duty Chicago police officer opened fire in Blue Island bowling alley, wounding three people, during fight over restroom: prosecutors

A retired Chicago police officer shot and wounded three people inside a bowling alley on Blue Island as a drunken toilet dispute escalated into a fistfight, according to Cook County opponents.

After knocking on the floor, Kyjuan Tate, 27, grabbed his rifle and placed it on the head of his opponent at the Burr Oak Bowl at 3030 W. 127th St. on Blue Island, critics said.

Dad pulled the trigger once, the bullet struck the man’s right ear and then passed through the room and struck the 52-year-old man in the chest, protesters said. The bullet came out of the man’s back and lay to the left of the 33-year-old bowling alley.

Dad was ordered on bail of $ 2 million on Friday, charged with attempted murder and battery and ammunition.

Judge Luciano Penici also ordered Tate to be placed on probation if he sent $ 200,000 required for his release, according to court documents. Dad was released from police custody earlier this week.

A bowling alley said Tate had a party that was doing karaoke in the lounge.

The fight began when a 46-year-old man was barred from entering the men’s restroom by Tate’s “rude” and “drunk” because Tate’s sister had used the site, prosecutors said.

The two men argued, but the man left and went to the parking lot to heat his car before using the toilet, protesters said.

Dad did not allow the man to enter the bathroom and the two of them argued again. Tate pulled up his sweater to show he had a Glock rifle, critics said.

Tate handed his gun to his sister and was then hit in the face by the other man, who jumped on Tate four or five times, protesters said. The fight broke out in a coma and the man knocked Tate to the ground, critics said.

When the man turned to leave, Tate took the gun to his sister and looked at the man, who told officials he could hear the gun barrel “shaking to the head behind his right ear” before Tate started firing, protesters said.

The Witnesses tried to prevent Tate from leaving, but he was seen staring at the gun as he insisted on entering the parking lot when police arrived at the scene, protesters said.

The man who was shot in the chest was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he settled after 48 hours after the shooting and could not move his left arm, protesters said. The bullet was removed from the hands of the manager at the same hospital.

The 46-year-old man had a cut on his ear and was suffering from hearing loss, critics said.

The Civil Accountability Office says it is investigating the shooting along with police on Blue Island.

Tate’s lawyer could not be reached for comment.

Tate was convicted of using “incompetent and inappropriate” language during LGBTQ training while working for the Cook County Senior Care Department, according to a 2019 report on cases not related to the department.

Dad was suspended for 30 days, according to the report.

A legal source said Tate had done the same thing at a graduation party with his police schoolmates. He got into an argument with a restaurant manager, informed the man that he was a police officer, and telephoned the police station.

A liquor license for the Bowling alley was drawn during an investigation into the shooting, an employee said.
