| 'I was murdered': video brings domestic violence victims back to life to warn others

“I was Michal Sela,” the dead mother says, looking into the camera. “In 2019, I was murdered by my ex-husband, the killer of Eliran Malul. And today, having lost my life, I call: Hear my voice.”

The video is part of an Israeli education campaign that uses smart techniques to resurrect five murdered women, to warn others about how to protect themselves from abusive relationships.

The videos are made from photographs of the women before they died, using technical skills to make them into videos that show them talking, called actors. She was created with a D-ID for in-depth study to record International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.

Among the women portrayed by Sela, 32 when she was killed by her husband in front of their infant daughter in 2019. She was found guilty of murder last month.

Sela’s sister, Lili Ben Ami, described her experience as “silent and tearful” at the resurrection.

The aim of such campaigns is to develop a “vaccine against violence, which we are fighting from all quarters,” Ben Ami, who, as a relative, endorsed the videos, told Channel 13 TV.

The Israeli Ministry of Health has also announced a 10% increase in its domestic violence grant in 2021 compared to last year.

In her video, “Sela” warns women to seek help if they are in a relationship with someone who is jealous and emotional.

“If you are afraid of what they might say after they leave, share it with a loved one and a domestic violence specialist, who will help you to break free and return to your light,” she says.
