New German Chancellor Olaf Scholz thrown in deep end with Russia: ‘Needs to be at centre’

Russia: Threat of Ukraine attacks that Ellwood is negotiating

Mr Scholz announced as new German Chancellor last night, after successfully securing a joint venture between the Social Democrat Party, Greens and the liberal Free Democrats. This new season closes the book Angela Merkel 16-year premiership. Scholz will face many challenges in the coming years and months, but the one threat he has to deal with is that Russia and its activities in Eastern Europe.

Russia has been forming its forces along its borders with Ukraine in recent days and fears it could invade.

About 100,000 troops are on the border of Ukraine, Kiev and Washington all warned.

Russian-backed separatists have also staged a major war in the eastern Donbass region of Ukraine, according to the country’s intelligence ministry’s intelligence agency.

Moscow has denied plans to launch an intervention in Ukraine, citing alleged Kiev and US warships in the Black Sea as reasons for its military action.

Since Russia invaded Crimea seven years ago, it has been instrumental in the war in the Donbass, killing more than 14,000 people.

Based on the situation in Ukraine, the new German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has been asked to represent the Russian President. Vladimir Putin.

Germany should be “in the middle” of Western attempts to stop Russia, Scholz was warned by political analyst John Callahan in an interview with Express.co.uk.

Callahan is a Dean of the School of Graduate and Professional Studies at New England College in the US and has worked in the US State Department and intelligence.

He said: “What is happening in Eastern Europe, if you want to stop Russia in Eastern Europe, the American people can help to do so in some way, but Germany must be in the middle of it.

“Without a strong response from Germany, Russia will have the courage to take action.”

The SPD leader was previously a democracy in Moscow, but the rise of Russian troops near Ukraine is one of its biggest political challenges.

Like Mrs. Merkel, she has so far not acted on the controversial Nord Stream 2 pipeline.

The £ 8billion construction project, which has taken five years to complete, will provide Russian gas to Germany.

Scholz was forced to resign from his job by his allies, as well as the UK, US, and other EU countries.

Callahan said “it’s no surprise that the SPD doesn’t talk much” Nord Stream 2.

He added: “They want to get oil and import it from the east, they also did not suffer much in Russia or China unlike other parties.”

Merkel’s wife wanted to complete the pipeline and was happy to do business with Russia, as long as it followed suit, according to Callahan,

“This has been the case in Germany for a long time, in which the gas in western Europe appears to be out of control of Russia’s power,” he said.

“But for a long time, Germany said, ‘Look carefully it goes both ways and we can’t buy it’.

“But whether this is true or not in winter when people are cold, is another question.”

In Ukraine, the expert said he did not think Mr Scholz would “stand up and let things happen”.

He also said that Scholz ‘chancellorship could follow a similar pattern to that of Mrs. Merkel.

The expert said the “Russian invasion of Ukraine by the Donbass, as well as the plague” were some of the “serious problems” of the 16-year-old Chancellor’s regime.

He added: “I think that, through his pragmatism, he has helped the German government, which is something he longs for – we all crave it, but especially the Germans.”
