Viruses are rushing to learn more about the current Covid-19 virus was first identified in Botswana, as well as one of the fastest growing strains of the virus in the South African region, including Johannesburg.

In contrast, currently called B.1.1.529, is said to have twice as many variations as the Delta species, which became more and more popular around the world in the summer.

It is not yet known whether these mutations cause the mutation to infect or cause serious illness, but researchers estimate the amount of mutations in spike protein – the purpose of the immune system – can make it able to pass through the immune system.

Despite the spread of these species, the number of people with Covid-19 in South Africa is still lower than the Delta population earlier this year. But the numbers are starting to rise again.

Until more information is identified, health officials in the United Kingdom are working to curb flights from six countries in southern Africa, adding to the “red flag” of travel.

The World Health Organization convened an emergency meeting on Friday to discuss the change. If it is proven to be interesting or disturbing, it should be called “Nu,” the next Greek letter in the modern system of names.
