Man dead after fatal crash on Monaro Highway

news, news,

A man has died and a woman is in hospital after an accident on Monaro Road south of the ACT border on Friday afternoon. The accident happened north of Kelly Road, which is about 30 kilometers south of Tuggeranong. Cars were closed on the highway just after 2pm on Friday, and motorists were advised to avoid the area. NSW police said the accident involved a truck and a car. “A male driver in the vehicle died on the scene and a woman was slightly injured and taken to Canberra Hospital in good health,” he said. “The driver took her to the hospital for a forced check-up.” Heavy vehicles are unable to cross the Monaro Highway, while small vehicles are heading south along Old Cooma Road. All traffic to the north is diverted to Michelago. “Motorists can expect significant delays and avoidance of the area,” said NSW Police. There was also a small collision on Monaro Highway in ACT, between Shepard and Tralee Streets in Hume on Friday. No injuries were reported in the ACT crash, local police said. Monaro Highway, which connects Snowy Mountains with the Federal Highway and is occupied by thousands of people living in Tuggeranong every day, was voted the worst in Canberra three years ago.
