No one was injured in the incident, but the town is mourning the loss.

However, at least 12 people have been killed in landslides in the state of Minas Gerais in Brazil since the weekend.

The region is fearful of heavy rains, and authorities are monitoring the dams.

Firefighters in the southeastern region found five members of the same family, two of whom were children, buried near the state capital, Belo Horizonte.

Two hours later, in the city of Sao Gonçalo do Rio Abaixo, a 10-year-old girl was killed when a wall collapsed in her bedroom, according to a state security report on Tuesday. .

Three more people have died in Caratinga, and in Ervalia, a 20-year-old man died in a landslide, the bulletin said.

The government also said two others died on Sunday.

It added that 145 municipalities were at risk due to flooding that had already forced more than 17,000 people to vacate their homes.

Other governments have been affected by the deadly rains in recent months.

The Bahia government said 26 people had died in the rains in November and December, and more than 100,000 had been displaced during the monsoon season.

Some areas of Minas Gerais have received more than 400 millimeters of rain in the first 10 days of the year, according to the Meteorological Institute in Brazil.

The commission predicted that rain would fall in the state after Thursday.

In addition to the collapse of mountains that have claimed lives and blocked roads, government officials have said they are concerned about dams that could cause accidents.

They were overseeing 42 dams in the state, three of which were at high risk, according to a document published Tuesday by the National Mining Agency.

Authorities have complained that the Carioca hydroelectric reservoir was flooded, with river dwellers relocating their homes, including the town of Para de Minas.

In a televised message, the mayor of the town said firefighters used a helicopter to rescue 130 people trapped in a flooded river.

Minas Gerais is the site of two recent catastrophic floods. In 2019, more than 200 people died when the dam in Brumadinho collapsed, and in 2015, another dam collapse killed 19 people.

The death toll from the floods did not include the death toll as a large stone blocked off a canyon wall in the southern state, landed on sailors, killing 10.

Some Lithgow roads have been forced to close due to flooding.
