James Stokoe: Man who murdered North East dad jailed for life

A MAN who brutally murdered his father has been stabbed to death in front of his son for life.

Alexander Layton stabbed James Stokoe several times after a rough road became extremely violent.

A 40-year-old boy bled to death in his BMW following an angry altercation on Trenchard Avenue, Thornaby, when Layton got out of the front of a car after getting off a bus on May 15 last year.

A 34-year-old boy had a history of abusing his own mother, including carrying a veil over his face, and was found guilty of robbery while in Amsterdam, the Teesside Crown Court heard.

Ms. Stokoe and the heartbroken mother spoke words that touched her heart but she was too upset not to read them for themselves.

Reading on their behalf, Peter Makepeace QV, their accuser, said Layton’s actions had left a void in their lives that would never be possible.

The judges sentenced Layton, of Shackleton Close, Thornaby, to death after serving a three-hour sentence.

He was also found guilty of possession of a dangerous weapon.

James Stokoe’s mother Doreen wrote: “I know how much love James had in his heart for his family. Our family will never be the same again. We have great sorrow in our lives now and there is no forgiveness in my heart.”

And his wife, Alex, who suffered from depression, said: “I miss James every day. I need her to help me make decisions in my life, especially when it comes to raising children. James’ life will not be empty, he will be remembered and loved for a long time. life. ”

The jury heard that the shooting had escalated as a result of a road accident when Mr Stokoe was forced to break his leg after Layton got out of the front of his BMW.

A passing nurse tried desperately to stop the bleeding but Stokoe was pronounced dead at the scene.

After a horrible slaughter, Cleveland police were able to track Layton’s movements as he was leaving Thornaby for North Yorkshire where he was arrested the following afternoon at a pizza shop in Great Ayton.

Bryan Cox QC, in a statement, told the court that his client had a traumatic childhood and was worried and upset.

Cox said Layton had a ‘difficult’ relationship with his mother after he was abused by his father.

Judge Howard Crowson sentenced Layton to at least 21 years and 162 days in prison from today.

He told Layton that Mr Stokoe had done nothing to justify the brutal assault he had inflicted on him when he was ‘unprotected’.
