The London crowd pays tribute to a 23-year-old Irish coach who was killed during a day race in Tullamore, County Offaly.

Vigil to Ashling Murphy outside the Irish Center in Camden
Hundreds of people remember the assassination of 23-year-old National School teacher Ashling Murphy at the Irish Center in Camden.

A large crowd gathered at the London Irish Center in Camden in association with the family and friends of an Irish primary school teacher who was killed while running for lunch.

People carried candles and stood in silence outside the London Irish Center in memory of Ashling Murphy.

The death of the 23-year-old in Tullamore, Co Offaly, earlier this week has sparked outrage on the Irish island.

Police are still searching for the killer, and Gardai said the Murphy family “was grateful and amazed at the help shown around the world”, after the plague broke out in towns in Ireland on Friday.

On Saturday, crowds lined up in Camden Square, north London, to sign a mourning book and lay flowers.

The attack took place around 4pm – when police said the attack took place along the Grand Canal in an Irish town on Wednesday.

Classical songs were sung in honor of Ms Murphy, a talented dancer, with some in the crowd singing or muttering quietly.

Anna Johnston, cultural director at the London Irish Center, said people gathered together who knew and loved Ms Murphy “and all Irish and distant women who are angry, upset and broken”.

Addressing the crowd, he added: “Today, along with Ashling, we remember all the women whose lives were threatened as a result of gender-based violence. We should not be here, and Ashling should be.

There was silence for a minute, after which the young teacher’s favorite song, When You Were Sweet Sixteen, was sung.

Ray Murphy’s father sang the banjo in honor of his youngest daughter at a ceremony Friday near his funeral.

Last year in London, people gathered to remember the head of business Sarah Everard and school teacher Sabina Nessa – two women who were killed while walking in the capital.

A small sign near the entrance of the London Irish Center had their names and the names of other women who had died, under the letters “RIP”.

Many people were laying flowers and candles as darkness fell.

A bouquet of flowers that was left outside the capital said: “Your beautiful life was stolen by evil.

You had to do very well. Keep your soul in the song. ”
