Fundraiser for Christmas parade massacre suspect canceled

GoFundMe’s mass-funded platform has worked hard to raise $ 5 million to rescue Darrell Brooks, who was charged with carjacking last weekend at a Christmas party in Waukesha, Wisconsin.

Brooks’ fundraiser was downgraded as it violated platform rules, GoFundMe said Wednesday. Company spokesman told Fox Business that a developer who was trying to raise Brooks funds was banned from using GoFundMe in future campaigns.

Brooks faces six counts of felony criminal mischief for firing on a motorcycle with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. According to a police affidavit, he went on a rampage to kill several people while cutting people. In addition to the six people killed, 61 were injured, including several children.

News of the Brooks fund-raiser was first reported Tuesday by Followers Today. The perpetrators identified James Norton of Waukesha, who called the culprit “Dear friend.” The site went on to say that Brooks was innocent and that he was “A black man is imprisoned for political crimes and racism.” It also wrote several hashtags, including “#BLM,” “#NoJusticeNoPeace” and “#RacismIsReal.”

It is unclear whether Norton and Brooks’ relationship is – if he knows the opponent well – or if he is trying to make money on behalf of the opponent.

GoFundMe was criticized last year for refusing to allow funding for the trial of Kyle Rittenhouse, a teenager who said he had defended himself after shooting three men, including two killers, during the Black Lives Matter riots in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The platform allowed some people to commit acts of violence immediately.

The lawsuit was filed last week after Rittenhouse was found not guilty of any of the charges against him, GoFundMe. handed over the document claiming that its policies prohibit people from receiving financial assistance for people accused of violent crimes. “If someone is released on these charges, as Rittenhouse was today, the money laundering started because of their legal security and some of the money would not violate the policy,” he said. the company said. The law allows for fines to be increased only if the defendant is released and may no longer require legal protection or bail.

Brooks has already existed release on bail twice this year. In one of the cases, a 39-year-old Milwaukee resident accused of shooting his nephew was released in February after paying only $ 500. And just 10 days before Waukesha’s bloodbath, she was released on $ 1,000 bail after being charged with assaulting her son’s mother and driving away in her SUV.
