COVID-19 in B.C.: 646 in hospital; community transmission may have peaked; pediatric cases on the rise

A health official in BC says it looks like the distribution of COVID-19 went up last week.

Dr. Bonnie Henry responded to a statement on January 14 by the media.

“Our experiment has been very high – and it has been happening in the recent 20s,” Henry said. “We have seen in the last week, in particular, that we begin to see a decrease in test scores and the number of PCR cases.”

He also said that Ontario and Quebec are “a little ahead of us” as they are in recent Omicron cases. And he said everyone is starting to see a reduction in the spread of the community.

“Some places in Canada … are a little behind us and are in development,” added Henry.

He also said people should wait until Tuesday (January 18) to announce whether the district wants to extend or repeal a by-law that has banned gymnasiums, dance halls, gymnasiums, nightclubs, and pubs.

Record the number of patients in the hospital

Despite the fact that community outreach has reached a peak in BC (although Henry acknowledged that this is not the case in the Northern Health Region), hospitals due to COVID-19 are still at risk in BC.

Today, BC also reported that 646 people are in the hospital due to COVID-19. This has risen sharply from yesterday’s 534 figure. But the number of critically ill patients dropped from 102 to 95 in 24 hours.

New deaths 6 were reported, bringing the total death toll from COVID-19 to 2,468 as of March 2020.

Henry reports that hospital admissions are on the rise and a “significant increase” for people over the age of 70. But the figure is still high among those over 80.

The district health officer also highlighted the dangers of the vaccine. For example, he said those who are not immune to the virus are more likely to be hospitalized 12 times and more than 27 hospitalized.

“It shows us that vaccines protect people who are very sick and out of the hospital,” Henry said.

Many children are hospitalized

In the case of pediatric diseases, there were nine people hospitalized in the ages of 0 to 4. There were two pediatricians from 5 to 11 and two from 12 to 17.

The number of daily child cases has risen sharply this month with the spread of the Omicron brand.

“Unfortunately, we have not seen any of these children in need of intensive care and we have not died in recent years,” Henry said. “But this also shows that the virus is spreading rapidly in our area.”

There has been only one case of a child being hospitalized in BC after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine.
