Chasing Great White Sharks—From Guadalupe to a Huge, Mystery Population off California

Michael Domeier and Nicole Nasby Lucas have been studying the white shark together for over 20 years. They began their work on Guadalupe Island in 1999. Since then, they have built a large white reservoir on the island’s 40-mile[94 km]coastline 160 from Baja California.

And the park includes world-famous white fish, including Lucy, a 17-foot-tall woman with a tail-shaped fins, and Deep Blue, a 50-year-old and 20-foot-tall man. one of the most famous white supremacists.

Domeier and Nasby Lucas, from the Marine Conservation Science Institute, accidentally followed a shark, Domeier said. He was looking to study the abundance of bluefin fish around the island of Guadalupe using satellites.

“Unfortunately, by the time I bought the tags and was planning a trip to Guadalupe Island, bluefin was missing,” he said. Newsweek. “However, we encountered a lot of white sharks.”

Guadalupe Island has a large white population. The water around the lava island provides heat and continuous food flow in the surrounding water, keeping them warm. places with food. Around Guadalupe Island, large white sharks can enjoy feasts on seals, sea lions and tuna.

Soon their satellite navigation system was amazed. “The first sign came out between the sea, between land and Hawaii,” Domeier said. “I immediately realized that what we thought we knew about this genre was completely wrong. I was attracted, and I’ve been looking for great whites ever since.”

Year after year, Domeier and Nasby Lucas returned to record and identify the sharks there, resulting in a repository that now includes hundreds of large white people.

From their research, we now know the vast majority of these sharks. Men return there every year, while women have a two-year migration period during pregnancy.

“When we learned a lot about sharks, we had a lot of questions,” said Nasby Lucas.

The team found that the great white people spend a lot of time at sea, sometimes traveling to Hawaii, some 1,500 miles[2,500 km]away. What they are doing outside is why it is still a mystery.

Nasby Lucas said that on this year’s tour, which ended in early November, he saw 40 different fish, including a female he had seen before in 2016. “It’s very exciting when you arrive. [see] one of the greatest women. “

He also said that in 20 years, the number of sharks on Guadalupe Island has increased. “It’s a great place to settle down for them,” he said.

As they continue to monitor population growth, they have reduced the marking on the island of Guadalupe and shifted their focus to the U.S. coast with new, more white people from the California coast.

After returning from Guadalupe Island, Domeier and Nasby Lucas headed for Point Conception, a place located in southern California, about 130 miles[130 km]north of Los Angeles. This is where a large group of white sharks have been discovered.

“Our new habitat in California, in my opinion, is an important area for white shark research in the northeastern Pacific,” Domeier said. “Why? It’s simple: no one knew the place existed a few years ago. And there are a lot of sharks out there.”

Domeier and Nasby Lucas are currently working on population analysis and have begun recording sharks in the area. “[We’re] trying to understand [that] area because it does not sound right. It looks like another big group, “said Nasby Lucas.” There are a lot of sharks out there, I say that.

Sharks with a mark should show the group where they are going and the areas they are using. He hopes to find out if the sharks are roaming the coast, or to other places thousands of miles away, such as Guadalupe, or nearby areas, such as central California.

Their recent trip to Point Conception has just ended. Nasby Lucas says he is now combining his findings with the ability to present them in scientific literature. Preliminary results appear to show men going to sea for half a year before returning. The women, he said, “are still a little unknown.” He said the figures seem to indicate that people are looking healthier and more and more. This could be the result of California-based security.

“We have a lot more work to do before we get results,” Domeier said. “What it means right away is that there are more white sharks in California than they once believed.
