CES 2022 attendance fell 73% to 45K from 2020 numbers. Was it worth it?

CES 2022Attendance figures were affected by the Omicron version of COVID, while statistics hit 45,000 attendees and 2,300 exhibitors.

The numbers are down from 171,000 attendees and 4,400 exhibitors at the last human event in January 2020, according to the Consumer Technology Association, a Las Vegas-based marketing group. There were 1,800 publishers, but for the first time in decades, I was not one of them.

The man’s video was discontinued in 2021 and moved to the internet only, but the group decided to move forward with the event in the first week of January, despite the spread of various strains of coronavirus. Mu a LinkedIn post, CTA chief Gary Shapiro defended the election to move forward. Back in November, Shapiro expected about half the size of the show, but it turned out that Omicron had dropped.

The CTA stood by the decision even though major companies such as Intel, Twitter, and many others decided to withdraw from the show at the last minute. After the companies left, a number of appointments were suspended and this made it easier for me to decide to resign before last week.

But many small companies could not do this, because they spent a lot of money in their camps and could not repay the money at the last minute. Another presenter told me that the CTA would not allow them to leave the contract, so they decided not to go and tried to go online with the availability of the internet and a small house.

Shapiro also said that the ban on corporations had become “a major radio issue, exacerbated by every new departure. Journalists on Twittersphere expressed their skepticism that a public display was possible, and many announced their intentions – based on their credentials or corporate principles – to cover the program.

The crowd was not very large at CES 2022.

He added, “The story changed a lot when we arrived in Las Vegas. On the stage, everyone seemed happy and excited. The audience and attendees had a ‘thank you note’ which convinced me that we had made the right decision to move forward with the show. even when there is a need for new adornment and a new routine. ”

Shapiro said the team made decisions that went beyond the health and safety requirements at major events. In the summer, the team said it needs to be vaccinated against all those who come, and after that masking is needed in all indoor areas. CES has expanded the corridors, deployed conference chairs to promote conflict and put some of the fun (and art) out.

The CTA brought in Abbott Healthcare to provide free COVID testing kits to all attendees, as well as free online PCR tests to international visitors. On New Year’s Eve, the CTA voted and announced that it would shorten the show by date to reduce the spread of COVID and address staffing issues.

“Among other things, our elections were guided by what President Biden said in December, when he urged Americans to focus on masking, vaccination and testing – but emphasized that the country should not and should not close,” Shapiro said.

Shapiro recognized Biden’s statement that it was not March 2020. Several members of Congress attended, including US Senators Jacky Rosen, Shelley Moore Capito, Marsha Blackburn, Susan Collins, and Maria Cantwell.

“Ultimately, COVID will be with us for a while and we need to find ways to deal with this,” Shapiro said. “Several Fortune 100 CEOs led me to this by thanking the CTA for our leadership in conducting CES.”

One advantage of the few was that the lines were not long and travelers could go to camps or events without much waiting. That way, easy access was a good thing. Smaller companies also got the chance to show up.

Shapiro said there are many digital health products, with more than a dozen companies exhibiting products designed to detect, track and prevent the spread of COVID-19. Shapiro said there were reports of those who had been tested positive for the virus, although vaccination and testing were needed. But he realized that there was a disease that appeared everywhere.

I think there is a lot of self-justification going on here. I agree with the problem and it is a difficult decision, but I also understand those who say that the CTA made a financial difference. I chose not to go because I did not want to be part of some of the more extreme activities that would endanger my family and friends when I returned. It may be safe, but I have been to many cases that claim to be safe and that is not the case. I am happy to see reports from people who have followed their policies.

Within the game, the big question now is whether it is wise to reserve trips to upcoming events like the DICE Summit in Las Vegas in February or the Sports Conference in March. The Entertainment Software Association, co-organizer of the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), has already announced that it will go online only with a show that usually attracts 65,000 people in Los Angeles in June.

Shapiro also said that the Business Travel Association, one of Washington’s largest commercial groups, praised CES for “there is no example of how business is doing and should happen in 2022,” and urged event organizers to follow through on their plans for this year.

“In the end, I believe we have done the right thing by deciding to move forward with CES 2022 as a personal event,” Shapiro said. “Not only did we adopt advanced medical procedures, but we provided an important platform for thousands of companies – many of them small and medium-sized businesses – that rely on CES.
