“I hope you give these kids the education they need to get more involved.” Samuel Goldwyn’s films unveiled a new US trailer for the indie movie Lunana: Yak in Class, produced in Bhutan by filmmaker Pawo Choyning Dorji. This started at the old festivals in 2019, but has been awaiting official release since then. A singer who wants to live with his grandmother in Bhutan’s capital, Thimphu, is dreaming of getting a visa to move to Australia. Struggling with his chosen career, Ugyen was disappointed to learn that in his final year of training he was sent to Lunana, in northern Bhutan – an amazing seven-day journey from the lowlands nearby. The huge rise and lack of resources finds Ugyen wanting to leave as soon as he arrives. But the local children welcome him and try to win him over. But they do not last long – they must choose to stay or go before winter arrives in the Himalayan highlands. Imaging using solar-powered cameras, this is a spectacular drama that provides insight into a part of the world that is rarely seen on a screen. Lunana: Yak in Class written and directed by a Bhutanese filmmaker Pawo Choyning Dorji, making his first directing role after making the film Hema Hema: Sing Me A Song And I Will Wait kale. This was first shown at the 2019 London Film Festival, and also aired at the Busan Film Festival that year.
