Four boys – 13-year-old, two 14-year-old and one 15-year-old – are arrested on suspicion of murder.
Police believe Ava and her friends got into an argument, which led to Ava being hit with “serious injuries”. The perpetrators then fled, police understood.
Police were called at 8:39 pm to find out about the plot. When he arrived, he found Ava, who had been with her friends, had fallen to the ground.
Someone who saw the incident gives him first aid.
The paramedics tried to help Ava and took her to Alder Hey Children Hospital, but sadly died shortly thereafter.
The center of the city was very busy at the time because the lights on the Christmas tree had just been turned on by the government. Police are appealing to anyone who has seen the incident, or who has filmed their phone, to come forward.
Assistant Chief Constable Jon Roy said: “Our thoughts and condolences go to the Ava family, which is assisted by Family Liaison special officers. Their country is broken and no parent should knock on the police door to announce that their child has died.”
He added: “Ava’s death should remind all of us of the role that each one of us must play in ending violence against women and girls.”
