Ahmaud Arbery's mother speaks out after murder trial verdict

“Finally we have found justice for Ahmaud,” he told ABC News.

“Today is Thanksgiving and I am very grateful. My family and I are truly grateful for the decision we made yesterday,” former WC Cooper-Jones of ABC News’ Whit Johnson interviewed Thursday in “Good Morning America.”

“Finally we have found justice for Ahmaud,” he added.

It has been almost two years since a 25-year-old black boy was shot while running in southern Georgia.

On Wednesday, Travis McMichael, who shot Arbery in February 2020, was found guilty by the Glynn County Magistrate’s Court on all nine charges, including aggravated murder and four counts of murder.

His father, Gregory McMichael, was found not guilty of murder but was convicted of all counts, including four counts of murder.

His neighbor, William “Roddie” Bryan, who filmed the case, was found guilty on six counts, including three counts of murder.

All three men will be sentenced to life in prison.

The judges, made up of 11 whites and one black man, announced the verdict after 11 hours of negotiations. Cooper-Jones, sitting in the courtroom, wept bitterly.

“There are no words to really describe all the thoughts I had at the time,” he said.

This is a growing story. Please see the changes again.
